Is green tea bad or good before you sing?
October 18, 2009My singing teacher tells me to drink green tea with honey in it before I sing, but sites online say that tea is bad to drink before you sing. Is tea bad, but is green tea okay? Which one is true?
Green tea is fine-it hydrates you and if drunk warm with honey it will soothe your throat. There is caffeine in green tea, but it is minimal.
Black tea and coffee on the other hand should be avoided due to the caffeine content, caffeine being a dehyrator.

Green tea is probably the best thing for you (aside from water) before, or after singing. It relaxes your throat muscles, which makes it easier for you to reach up and grab those high notes. It also clears any phlegm you might have in your throat, the benefits of that are obvious.
Typically, you should just listen to your voice teacher. They know what they’re talking about, and are being paid to help (not hurt) you. So just listen to him/her.
