Does Tazo Tea have the same health benefits as any other tea?
December 20, 2009Anything you know about Tazo Tea and its benefits would be great!
There is alot of scientific research going on on tea right now. What the cultures of long ago believed about the health benefits of tea is being discovered and reported by scientists today. Green tea by far has been found to have the highest level of antioxidants. Black tea, white tea, oolong and rooibus all have been reported to have health benefits.
Of course loose leaf tea is reported to have the highest quality of nutrition. Store bought tea in bags contain the poorest quality of tea- actually from the left over products from the dried loose leaf teas.
There are many herbal teas that are very tasty and have health benefits as well. I get my information and products from www.your-cup-of-tea.com

So the benefits of tea are not really well understood at this point. There is some talk about antioxidants, which corporate entities use to market their tea, but there’s really not a lot of science to back their claims up. I will refer to these "healthy" entities in the tea, such as antioxidants and other things, as chemicals (that’s what they are), in the rest of my answer. If you look at the scientific journals, there’s no word on 1) how much of the "healthy" chemical is in different kinds of tea, 2) the benefits of the chemical are not understood, 3) how much of the chemical is needed to give benefits, 4) the amount of the chemical varies from leaf to leaf, and 5) whether or not the chemicals even do anything if consumed in the form of tea. There’s really no reason to drink tea if you’re just looking for the health benefits of those elusive antioxidants, and you’re much better off getting them from fresh fruits and vegetables.
HOWEVER, there are reasons why tea is healthier than other drinks:
1) No fat or calories unless you add milk and sugar/spenda
2) Replaces the calories you’d get from drinking other beverages (like soda or juice)
3) Tea is calming and the act of making and drinking a cup of tea can help you relax, center, and calm down, reducing your overall stress cortisol levels and lifting your mood
Drink tea because you LIKE tea! Any tea company that’s purporting to have "healthy" tea is lying to get your money. Newsflash: those "green tea diets" are a scam! There isn’t any documented benefit from drinking green tea or any other kind of tea, except for the fact that you’re drinking it INSTEAD of fattening sodas or juice. Explore different varieties and combinations. I think the Tazo varieties are delicious (especially the Chai). I’m also a fan of Adagio teas, and I like to mix the different flavors together.
